Caladrius – The Healing Bird

In Greek and Roman times, the Caladrius was a mythical bird with special healing powers.  By looking into the eyes of a person who was gravely ill, the Caladrius would absorb the sickness into itself.  It would then fly towards the sun, dispersing the illness harmlessly into the atmosphere and the patient would recover.
